Class Descriptions:
Kundalini Yoga and Meditation
Kundalini Yoga is an ancient science that helps to stretch and strengthen the body, relax the mind, and elevate the spirit! It had been passed down from master to student for thousands of years. In the 20th century, it was brought to the United States by Harbajan Singh Khalsa, known as Yogi Bhajan. Yogi Bhajan was the first master of Kundalini yoga to teach the practice openly to the public. Since then, thousands of people have experienced the fun and magic of Kundalini Yoga. In a typical Kundalini class, students from beginners to experienced practitioners follow the teachers guidance as they are led through a series of pranayama (breathing) exercises, physical exercises which can consist of holding poses or repeating specific motions over a number of minutes, a meditation, and a final extended relaxation. All classes are open to all levels. Teachers of Kundalini yoga do not do any hands on adjustments as is common in other practices.
As with all exercise, please consult your physician before taking up this or any new form of physical activity.
What to wear, what to bring:
Students should wear stretchy clothing so as to be comfortable during the class. Gym pants and a tshirt are good options.
White clothing is traditional in Kundalini Yoga but is by no means required. All teachers wear head coverings when they teach as part of their practice, and students may want to experiment with wearing a head covering as well, although, again this is not a requirement.
Yoga Mats are available at the studio, two dollars for a rental, or you may bring your own.
A bottle of water is also suggested. There is water provided at the studio for refreshment after the class.
